Hi there, my name is Mia Jay an exercise physiologist from Sydney. There is no doubt that exercise is powerful. It empowers us to feel happier, healthier, stronger and can lift us up when we may be feeling down.
Here are a few FAQ…
What if we knew the #secret to feeling happier, healthier and fitter, would you use it?
If ALL the benefits of exercise were produced by a pharmaceutical company with a single pill, would you take it?
I would!

Exercise Sports Science Australia says

“Exercise is a powerful tool in the prevention, treatment and management of chronic disease… Just as patients fill their prescriptions and take their medications… Give your patients an ‘exercise prescription’!
What is your current Dose of Exercise?
Exercise Scientists like me, are saying you can enjoy the benefits of exercise with
10 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity x 3 times a day. #miashealth#ExerciseIsMedicine#ExerciseRight

1. How many days per week do you exercise?
2. How many minutes per day?
3. At what intensity do you exercise (light, moderate or vigorous)
What can Physical Activity do for me?

Physical Activity can help to manage our #pain and #chronic #medical conditions, increase our balance and our #proprioception (a fancy word to know where our body is in time… just like closing our eyes and knowing our arm’s position and where it moves and how it can reach out and tap our nose or touch our lips).
Exercise may increase our joint’s range of movement and #muscular #mobility, improve our #strength, #flexibility, #speed, #power or #cardiovascular #capacity , help us to reach our #optimal #health as well as improving our mental health. Regular physical activity helps to reduce high blood pressure, manage blood sugar levels especially for those with diabetes, improve our heart’s efficiency and reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis. Exercise helps us to improve our #core #stability and #posture it may even help us to correct our #gait (a fancy word for the way we walk). Exercise may help us to recover after #surgery or recover after #birth.
Physical activity can help us have Health & Happiness in our Head and Heart! Mia J Kacen
What can an Exercise Physiologist do for me?

Depending on your needs & considerations: I may help you to run #faster, #run up a #hill or #climb a tree or even climb stairs independently without using a handrail for #balance. It depends solely on your needs.
Each session is tailor made for you.
For example we may need to help with:
1. Excelling Elite Athletes
2. Improving Quality of life for Special Needs such as autism, cerebral palsy & schizophrenia.
3. Preventing, Treating & Managing your chronic conditions such as MS & diabetes.
What if I have barriers to exercise?

It is okay! Life gets busy! We all journey on the roller coaster of life’s ups and downs. We may prescribe home-based exercises for you, they may be as simple as going for a walk or jog by the beach or park. As easy as this sounds for some… sometimes we experience obstacles (a fancy word for the lack of resources and time to exercise, support or motivation, injury and energy). It is okay to experience obstacles. It is okay to ask for help.
This is when we can truly utilise a professional to guide us through safe, fun and effective exercises.
Let us help you, to be the best YOU, that you can be.
You can have your very own clinical Accredited Exercise Physiologist, just like us, just like that!
What is the difference between an exercise physiologist and a physiotherapist?
We sound similar in the health industry as we help to optimise movement and function however we differ in the following ways. Physiotherapist can provide injury diagnosis and prognosis, whereas exercise physiologists may receive a diagnosis and provide rehabilitation programs, including lifestyle changes with education and behaviour modification. Physiotherapists provide ‘hands on’ treatment (e.g. joint manipulation and mobilisation, acupuncture and massage) while exercise physiologists provide ‘hands off’ treatment by implementing clinical exercise programs.
What are Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP)?
,,ESSA.org.au answers our question… AEPs are university qualified allied health professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities. Pathology domains covered by the services of AEPs include cardiovascular, metabolic, neurological, musculoskeletal, cancers, kidney, respiratory / pulmonary and mental health, and any other conditions for which there is evidence that exercise can improve the client’s clinical status.
Who is Exercise Science Sports Science Australia (ESSA)?

Exercise & Sports Science Australia is our peak professional body and sole accrediting authority for Accredited Exercise Physiologists. ESSA is also the accrediting body for Accredited Exercise Scientists, Accredited Sports Scientists and Accredited High Performance Managers. To gain AEP accreditation with ESSA an individual must Graduate from a minimum 4 years of study in an ESSA accredited course. If AEPs meet the professional standards for exercise science, they can be dual accredited as an Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES). AEP’s must meet the professional standards for exercise physiology, including 360 hours of practical experience with clients with clinical conditions (eg. cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, musculoskeletal, neurological). To maintain accreditation with ESSA, an AEP is required to Hold and maintain a valid first aid and CPR certificate and continue Professional Development.
